Bait Rindu; sajak hati

Sebuah puisi; Jika Sampai Waktuku
Aku berjalan perlahan, berhati- hati, namun pasti
Jika sampai waktuku,
Jika sampai waktuku,
Kuharap KAU jaga hati mereka agar tetap kepadaMU
Sebagaimana KAU selalu jaga dan luruskan hatiku dikala lalai
Aku tidak diam pun  tidak melarikan diri
Aku berjalan perlahan, berhati- hati, namun pasti

PELITA

Hati- hati meletakan susunan batu
Agar menjadi indah
Kau tahu bagaimana susunan yg indah?
Hati- hati menjaga sang pelita
Agar selalu bersinar

Palembang, the capital city of South Sumatera

Do you ever heard the city namely 'Palembang'?
If you are Indonesian, you must know it, mustn't you? but, it is not a big deal if you don't know it yet.
Here, I will share with you about Palembang.

It's easy if you want to know general information about Palembang, just like what I did:
Palembang is the capital city of the South Sumatra province in Indonesia. Located on the Musi River banks on the east coast of southern Sumatra island, it has an area of 374.03 square kilometres and a population of 1,742,186 people (2013 estimate).[1] Palembang is the second-largest city in Sumatra after Medan and the seventh-largest city in Indonesia after Jakarta, Surabaya, Bandung, Medan, Semarang, and Makassar. The city hosted the 26th edition of Southeast Asian Games from 11 to 22 November 2011 along with Jakarta.
Palembang is one of the oldest cities in Indonesia, and has a history of being the capital city of the Kingdom of Srivijaya, a powerful Malay kingdom, which influenced much of Southeast Asia.[citation needed] The earliest evidence of its existence dates from the 7th century; a Chinese monk, Yijing, wrote that he visited Srivijaya in the year 671 for 6 months. The first inscription in which the name Srivijaya appears also dates from the 7th century, namely the Kedukan Bukit Inscription around Palembang in Sumatra, dated 683.[citation needed]
Palembang landmarks include the Ampera bridge and the Musi River, the latter of which divides the city into two, Seberang Ilir to the north and Seberang Ulu to the south. The Seberang Ilir is Palembang's economic and cultural centre and the Seberang Ulu is its political centre.(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palembang)

This information tells us about Palembang, but as native I will not share with you about Palembang with that style^^

As you know me from my other posts; I like pictures a lot.
I think pictures could describe it well ;)

so, talk about Palembang, people will remember about the great kingdom; Sriwijaya.
Yes, other name of Palembang is Bumi Sriwijaya. Actually, (as I know), native people of Palembang (Palembangnese) pronounce the word 'Palembang' with 'Pelembang'. But, since the written form of the name of this city is 'Palembang', people tend to pronounce it with 'Pa' not 'Pe' anymore.
Especially, young generation, what they know is Palembang not Pelembang, but when you come to the elderly, they keep use 'Pelembang'.

There are many tribes in South Sumatera, Palembang tribe is one of them; it is called as Melayu Palembang tribe. These people use 'bahaso Pelembang' as their language. Every regency and each district also have their own language based on their tribes, but all of South Sumatera people can speak 'bahaso Palembang' as their united language.

Melayu Palembang tribe consists of many tribes (http://blogalakadar.blogspot.com/2014/04/orang-palembang-suku-asli-palembang.html), they are:

  • Kaum kerabat Ogan
  • Kaum kerabat Lubai
  • Kaum kerabat Rambang
  • Kaum kerabat Cambai
  • Kaum kerabat Pegagan
  • Kaum kerabat Lembak
  • Kaum kerabat Lintang
  • Kaum kerabat Kikim
  • Kaum kerabat Gumay
  • Kaum kerabat Pasemah
  • Kaum kerabat Enim
  • Kaum kerabat Semende
  • Kaum kerabat Kisam
  • Kaum kerabat Lematang
Ogan tribe has language namely 'bahaso Komering', Cambai and Lembak have language that has some similarities, the language called 'besa belide'. Those are what I know.

I was born in Pajar bulan, a village in Semende. Semende is another tribe of Palembang. Since 'bahaso Palembang' mostly use letter 'o', Semende is more familiar as 'Semendo'.
This place produces coffee as the main product. It is very famous in Indonesia as 'Kopi Semendo'. The language that we use is Melayu Semende. Most of the words use letter 'e' with the way of pronouncing as the first syllable in word 'above'.

For example:
Bahasa Indonesia : Kemana
Bahaso Palembang: Kemano
Bahase Semende: Kemane

:) :) :) It is always interesting when we talk about culture and language :) :) :)

OK, then about Musi river, as you see in wikipedia explanation above. Musi river or 'Sungai Musi' is the biggest  river in South Sumatera.

Sungai Musi from above. Picture taken by me on June 21st, 2014.
Musi river divides South Sumatera into two parts. They call it "Ulu and Ilir". My place is in ilir part.
Ulu is the downtown. You can find malls and other shopping sites there^^
In order to connect Ulu and Ilir, Palembang has AMPERA bridge as its city icon.
AMPERA stands for 'Amanat Penderitaan Rakyat", so they we pronounce AMPERA is should be AMPERA with 'PE' like 'Permen' in bahasa Indonesia :)

There an island on  Musi river, namely 'Pulau Kemaro' or Kemaro island. Kemaro is bahaso Palembang, which means 'Kemarau' in bahasa Indonesia, or 'Dry season'. This island is never be flooded when Musi water is in high volume; it is always dry.

Pulau Kemaro, small half circle in Sungai Musi. June 21st, 2014.
Here is Pulau Kemaro. In the picture you can see Sungai Musi and an island on it. It shaped a half circle. In that island there is a 'Pagoda', a place for 'Konghuchu' pray.

Other great thing in Bumi Sriwijaya is its traditional foods^^ Nom nom nom
Anyone know 'Pempek'?
Here we go ...

Pempek, Model, dan Srikayo
Alright, I think that's all I can share with you.
Later I give you some details of each^^

Thank  you :*

Is implicature important?

Konbanwa... Hallo friends :) How's day?
It is a good news for you all. I'm going to share with you my experiences during class sessions here.
My days are colorful ^^

I love Pragmatics class lately. The way our Prof explaining is very meaningful to me. I love this subject all in sudden. I also love Second Language Acquisition class. The materials and the lecturers are great.

Pragmatics tell me about how to communicate well to other people, while Second Language Acquisition tells me how to understand other factors that may influence the target language learned by other people. These subjects amaze me so much.

Then, I start relating all things in my daily life to the theories in these two subjects.
My findings motivate me to learn more and more.
Take as an example, are the theories in Pragmatics; Grice's Cooperative Principles and Theory of relevance. These two theories make me did an observation to my friend. I just think of what the theories told me, that communication takes place on the some principles of relevance. That was what my Prof said in lecturing session.

He added that actually creating implicature is always risky.
Why?
It's all because not all people could understand or got your point.

And then, I was thinking at that time, "So, is implicature important? When are we allowed to create implicature? What if making implicature is our habit, for example, some introvert people tend to create implicature. That is their characters. So how do we react on this phenomenon?

There are too many questions and I keep questioning until now.

An answer from my Prof when I asked about the last question, "Creating implicature for introvert people is the way they communicate. How do we understand it? and how do we tell them that it's risky; that they will direct the hearers to misunderstanding?"

My Prof said, "The introvert one will tell us everything once he/ she feel comfort to share with".
So simple. The point is [C]reating implicature is important, the choice to create it or not is based on the speaker itself. He/ she decide themselves when they'll create an implicature and when they will not.
O.K. then, case closed :)

I can continue my life and keep observing anything around me to be a better person.

Bismillah.

Senior High Students’ Psychological Problems in Speaking English as Foreign Language

Senior High Students’ Psychological Problems in Speaking English as Foreign Language
(A Survey in a Senior High School in Bandung)

Alma Prisilya
English Education, School of Postgraduate Studies, Indonesia University of Education

Abstract
Teaching English in Indonesia is not typically same as in other countries. Not only does the changes of curriculum, the lack of teachers’ competences, but more importantly the students who learn English also faced some problems during the learning process. It is supported by Ariffansyah (2013), “… problem will appear if there is inappropriate between exception and reality. Another defines that a problem will happen if someone’s necessity does not fulfill.” The way of pronouncing the words and the written forms in English are counted as inappropriate reality. It makes students confused, because the written language and the oral language are different. Some of them get problems in those kinds of linguistic matters and some are more in psychological problems. Therefore the present study was aimed to discover the most common psychological problems that face by senior high students in speaking English. Quantitative method was employed by distributing close- ended questionnaire to 100 respondents out of 183 students. The result exhibited that students’ fear of derision, uneven allocation of turn, and students’ incomprehensible inputs are the most common psychological problems in speaking English which influence their oral performances. To conclude, most of the students’ problems in speaking English come from psychological aspects. Nonetheless, they are actually quite good in written performances. Thus, teachers can minimize the speaking failure by focusing on those common problems; creating a good classroom environment which are fair to every student in the classroom; free of embarrassment and fun activities, so that students can participate actively in speaking class.

What did They Say about Their Reading Materials? (Sebuah Investigasi Mengenai Kesulitan yang dihadapi Siswa Kelas Satu SMP dalam Membaca Teks Deskriptif Berbahasa Inggris)

What did They Say about Their Reading Materials?
(Sebuah Investigasi Mengenai Kesulitan yang dihadapi Siswa Kelas Satu SMP dalam Membaca Teks Deskriptif Berbahasa Inggris)

Alma Prisilya
English Education, School of Postgraduate Studies, Indonesia University of Education

Abstract
Reading is one of language skills, but the lack of Indonesian students’ proficiencies in reading; and/ or understanding the reading material this time is being public concern. The data from PISA showed that Indonesia is in 57th place out of 65 countries in terms of its reading proficiency. The failure of students in understanding the reading materials is not fully their faults, moreover that they are expected to read foreign language (English); textbook or e-book. So, it is important for them to understand the English reading materials to support their reading spirits. This study aims to investigate the problems facing by students in reading English descriptive texts and their efforts to overcome those problems. This study applies qualitative method; using observation and open- ended questionnaire as the instruments. The result of this study shows that level of difficulty of the texts is causing difficulties in reading, as well as the illustration of the texts (pictures) at some point is not clear enough. Students’ reading frequency also becomes their problem. They solve the problems by making group or pair work, asking for help, looking up their dictionary, and repeating to read the text.
